Zero Tolerance Discontinues Four Models

Zero Tolerance surprised dealers by announcing the discontinuation of four models, effective tomorrow. Dealers were also told that ZT would no longer enforce MAP pricing on these knives. That means we may see them offered at irresistible prices in the days to come. It’s still unclear if these blades are the only models that won’t survive to see 2018, or if more knives are also on their way out.

ZT0900
The small but mighty ZT0900 is one of two Les George designs on the chopping block. Based on the Mini Harpy, the 0900 debuted at SHOT Show 2015. It came at a time when fans were clamoring for smaller, more EDC-friendly ZT knives. With a blade length of just 2.75 inches, it’s the smallest knife in ZT’s lineup. Once the ZT0900 goes, there will be no offerings in ZT’s catalog with a blade length under three inches – although slim knives like the ZT0450 and 0460 continue to appeal to those looking for smaller ZTs.

ZT0909
On the other side of the size spectrum lies the burly ZT0909. Les George did not shy away from overbuilding this one. Despite weight saving G-10 scales over its thick liners, the 0909 enters the ring at a hefty seven ounces. Roomy ergonomics and simple, rugged construction make it a good choice for heavy cutting chores and outdoor activities. The new for 2017 ZT0920 maintains George’s presence, offering another option for those who want a big Les George design from ZT.

ZT0804CF
When it released in 2016, the ZT0804CF was the priciest non-sprint run ZT model. A carbon fiber show scale, sculpted titanium pocket clip, and high-performance CTS-204P steel combined to make it one of the most premium offerings from a company that maintained high standards, to begin with. The decision to cut the 0804CF could presage the advent of an all Ti version, or it could simply mean that ZT is making room for new models in 2018.

ZT0630
Last year the Ernest Emerson-designed 0620 tanto got the ax, and this year its clip point companion model follows suit. When the Emerson/ZT partnership developed in 2014, excitement levels were high as two of the biggest names in the business combined forces. With the discontinuation of the 0630, no Emerson-designed ZTs remain active products (although it is still possible to find the limited edition carbon fiber version). It could be that new collaboration models are around the corner, but we’ll have to wait until SHOT Show 2018 to find out for sure.

July Discontinuations
In July, ZT also discontinued two orange handle/black blade Sprint Run knives, the ZT 0562ORBLK, and the ZT 0630ORBLK. The base 0562 model and carbon fiber variant remain active in ZT’s lineup.
