Kizer just released the details of the latest knives in their new Bladesmith line of custom collaborations, including the company’s first ever fixed blade. The TASK I folder and TASK II fixed blade are both designed by German knife maker Ulrich Hennicke, who joins the growing ranks of knife makers trusting Kizer to make their custom designs more affordable.
According to Kizer, their partnership with Hennicke began after a meeting at this year’s IWA trade show in Nuremberg, Germany. The show is the largest industry trade show outside the US – with several major knife companies in attendance. Though the TASK I and II designs are nothing more than digital mock-ups at this point, Hennicke’s slender, graceful style appears to be faithfully translated from Hennicke’s custom work. There are no details yet about materials or exact size for either knife, but the folder appears to be a framelock with thumbstud deployment, and the fixed blade a full-tang construction.
Earlier this year, Kizer reorganized their lineup into three categories: the ‘Prime’ series includes all their in-house designs, the ‘Vanguard’ series represents Kizer’s budget line of knives made in less-expensive configurations, and the ‘Bladesmith’ series includes knives made in collaboration with talented custom makers from around the globe.
Though Kizer offers many knives in each category, their Bladesmith might be the fastest-growing. Kizer relies on the makers themselves to help spread the word about these new blades, some of which (like the popular Gemini) are also available within the budget friendly Vanguard Series. In 2016, Kizer has flooded the flipper market and with the news of the Hennicke collaborations, the company is expanding its limited non-flipper offerings and entering the fixed blade market too.
