Hogue Extends Automatic Line with New OTF Series

Hogue has just announced that it will be building on its strength in the automatic knives category with a new line of out-the-front (OTF) knives. Designed by custom maker and long-time collaborator Allen Elishewitz, the 34000 series is billed as an OTF that is ready to stand up to hard use.

The 34000 is made of 6061-T6 aluminum and builds on the common rectangular OTF handle shape with hexagonal, scale-like texturing and a thumb recess at the hilt for added grip. The blade steel is CPM-154, with 3.4-inch tanto and clip point blade shape options. A non-reversible clip buries the 5.16 oz. OTF deep in the pocket.

Deployment and retraction is activated via a large sliding trigger on the spine of the knife. No proprietary technology appears to be on offer, but Hogue promises a fast action. “The result is a lightning fast spring action knife that is a reliable work horse each and every time you need it,” Hogue’s Jim Bruhn says.

Hogue Knives has established a reputation for durability, and the company tells us their OTFs will follow in this tradition. “We’ve created an OTF automatic for people who like to use and abuse their knives,” Bruhn says. Spring-based automatic knives are not known for their toughness, but Hogue tells us the 34000 series OTFs will be subjected to a rigorous testing process. “Every OTF is individually tested and laser etched with a unique serial number before it bears the Hogue name. The spring-assisted deployment holds fast after firing for even the most demanding chores.”

The new model will be available in six variations and is on its way to leading dealers.
