We Knife Co. and collaborator Mike Gavac are Gav-bac with the High-Fin XL. The high profile collab is set to arrive this month after first surfacing back in January.
When the High-Fin XL was revealed at SHOT 2024, it was not an enormous surprise. After all, the standard We Knife Co. High-Fin has been popular, and arguably one of the company’s definitive partnership pieces. Moreover, larger or smaller versions of well-received knives often appear in due time – particularly when you’re talking about a company as prolific as We Knife Co., which routinely turns out new models under three separate labels.
But unsurprising does not mean disappointing, and it’s cool to see the High-Fin design scaled up into something firmly in the mid-size class. The shark-ish wharncliffe blade, with its high fin swedge, measures 3.48 inches on the XL – a conservative measurement for something called “Xtra Large,” but a pretty big gain when you consider that the standard High-Fin was possessed of just 2.98 inches of blade. Now larger chores are doable, as are some more specialized roles outside of “general EDC knife” – although that’s still feasible with the XL, too.
The High-Fin XL also sports another squaloid flourish unique to this bigger variant, and that is the shark scale-like texturing on the titanium scales. There are four different color schemes available with a CPM-20CV blade and, as usual, a Damasteel option too: that one comes with a polished titanium handle. All versions of the High-Fin XL have the same weight, which is recorded as 4.03 oz.
The High-Fin XL will come ashore this month.
