Blade Show 2022: New Auto Family on the Way from Buck

It’s a big Blade Show for Buck: the Idaho giant brought a new line of automatic knives to Atlanta, as well as a 2022 revision/expansion of the Sprint folder family.

Deploy

Buck has been busy building automatic versions of legacy models like the 110 and 112; this summer we’ll see the release of a modern automatic knife called the Deploy. Sporting a lean and mean industrial look, the Deploy has an aluminum frame that houses both the firing button and a secondary safety toggle. Its 3.25-inch blade is made from 154CM steel and comes in a classic drop point profile.

Alongside the full-size model we’re getting the Mini Deploy. This little guy has the same profile, materials, and features as the full-size, but shrunk way down: in fact, with a blade length of just 1.88 inches, this little guy is both highly pocketable and California-legal.

Sprint Ops

There’s a new Sprint Ops model on the way. This one swaps out the quirky modified drop point of the first Sprint Ops for a reverse tanto blade shape. The blade might alter the way the Sprint Ops cuts, but it’s spec’d for the same role, and its blade length is the same as the original at 3.125 inches. Two of the incoming Sprint Ops models, the ones with black or natural Micarta scales, still have S30V steel; but the carbon fiber-clad version has a blade made from S45VN instead.

Incidentally, although the Sprint Pro design isn’t getting any brand new models, it does get a trio of new versions. There are burlap and tan canvas Micarta models with S30V steel, and a premium carbon fiber/S45VN version.
