CJRB Serves up Stylized Wharnie in Latest Prototype

CJRB Cutlery has another prototype available for purchase, and fans of wharnies should take note. The Capstone delivers a mid-sized wharncliffe embellished with a few unusual finishing details.

Fullers originated as a practical consideration on fixed blades, a way to lighten the knife without negatively impacting its strength. But they’re enjoying a rich second life as a decorative element on folders; case in point, the oversized fuller on the Capstone. It runs from the slanted forward edge of the 3.43-inch blade all the way back to the trapezoidal opening cutout, and looks pretty cool. Too, speaking of cutouts, there’s also a semi-circle notch along spine, where it drops down towards the tip.

An uncoated blade variation is also still available

It’s an eye-catcher to be sure, but not the kind that will shy away from work when the time comes. Underneath the very modern finishing touches there is a wharncliffe shape that does not stray too far from time-honored wharnie principles; that means piercing and slicing should both come rather easily to this one. AR-RPM9, the proprietary steel that Artisan implements on knives within both the main and CJRB lines, is on call here for well-rounded, entry-level stainless performance.

The hard angles of the Capstone’s blade are nicely echoed by the subtle linework of the handle. All of the cuts in the silhouette are straight lines, providing a deep multi-finger channel beneath the guard before widening out a bit towards the backspacer. The scales are chamfered G-10, and there is a liner lock located in the usual spot. The clip can be reversed to either side, and the CJRB lists the weight as 4 oz. even.

The Capstone prototypes are available now, but they won’t be around forever.
