RoseCraft Tanasi Lake Debuts with Bora Bora Blue Covers

This Friday a summery new RoseCraft slipjoint will be available. It’s called the Tanasi Lake, and like other recent RoseCraft releases it’s a practical jack knife design.

RoseCraft CEO Andy Armstrong, who is responsible for all of the company’s slipjoint designs, has been maintaining an intense pace with the non-locking releases this year. Each RoseCraft slippie is Armstrong’s interpretation of storied traditional patterns, and this time he turned his gaze towards the tear drop handle profile.

The spear point blade shape is a classic

As the name implies, the tear drop has a handle that swells out before tapering in to a pointed back end – not unlike a cartoon tear drop shape. It’s a shape that’s naturally ergonomic, with more than 100 years of use by makers of all sizes. Part of the appeal of a traditional is the cover material, and RoseCraft chose “Bora Bora Blue” bone for the covers on this one; as a natural material each piece of bone will have its own unique grain and hue, but it gives the Tanasi Lake a pop of marine color befitting its name.

Moving onto the sharp end of the Tanasi Lake, we have a 2.8-inch blade, rendered in a wide spear point shape that just screams ‘traditional knife.’ Like the handle design, it’s a profile that’s a proven workhorse, backed up here by the usual D2 tool steel. This is one of the most common steels in circulation today, thanks to its satisfactory edge retention and toughness without having an untoward impact on overall cost.

The Tanasi Lake is landing this Friday. Some RoseCraft traditional knives are limited releases, and the Tanasi Lake is one such; once this batch is gone, there’s no guarantee it will return, in this configuration or any other.
