SHOT Day 1: CRKT Goes American-Made with New Crossbar Lock Folders

Last week CRKT brought out their giant 2023 catalog, crammed full of new knives from its extensive team of collaborating designers. But the company was holding something back for SHOT Show week, it seems, as they’ve just revealed the Definitive and LCBK, a pair of U.S.-made knives equipped with the Crossbar Lock.

Definitive

Both of the Crossbar Lock knives are designs from the Lerches, a husband and wife team who are both respected knife makers. The Definitive is MJ Lerch’s contribution, and she cooked up a larger workhorse with an aggressive, 3.7-inch clip point blade made from 154CM. The Crossbar Lock appears to be another variation on the ambidextrous Axis Lock-style mechanism, with a spring loaded crossbar securing the blade in both open and closed positions; opening is done on the Definitive via thumb stud.

The handle is made from simple but rugged black G-10, with some cutouts on the back half giving the knife an industrial design-inspired aesthetic. A deep carry pocket clip is situated for right handed carry and doesn’t appear to be reversible; in total the Definitive weighs 3 oz. on the nose.

LCBK

Meanwhile, from Lerch’s husband Matthew, we see the LCBK, which CRKT says is short for Lightweight CrossBar Knife. A bit smaller at 3.48 inches long, the LCBK’s blade profile is a wharncliffe, modified to have some upsweep, bringing the point more center and creating belly for added slicing power; it too opens with a thumb stud and is made from 154CM steel. The LCBK’s handle is more angular than that of its compeer, with a cutaway spine revealing an elongated backspacer-combination-lanyard lash point. Not surprisingly, it’s a bit lighter too, at 2.8 oz.

Both Crossbar Lock knives are going to be available sooner rather than later. CRKT says they’re going live to order on January 24th, a week from today, at 10am PST/1pm EST.
