Owner of Smyrna, Georgia-based Going Gear Marshall Hoots passed away last week. The 37-year old father of two was a prominent and passionate member of the EDC gear community.
Hoots’ genuine passion for an outdoors lifestyle shone through on his storefront. Hoots founded Going Gear in 2008 which he grew from a side-project in his free time into a trusted retailer of premium outdoor products. The Going Gear exclusives were always special blades, the kind of products a true knife enthusiast would make given the time and means.
One of Hoots’ lasting contributions to the gear world is the Going Gear YouTube channel, where he provided in-depth information on flashlights, packs, knives, and more. Hoots always kept his reviews and overviews thoughtful, straightforward, and insightful. During SHOT Show he covered brands both big and small.
A celebration of Hoots’ life is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, October 8th, at the Smyrna Community Center. A GoFundMe trust has been started for Hoots’ children and is open for donations.
