Spyderco Voted Best Overall New for 2019 Lineup

Presented by: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpeners

Spyderco is the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice for Best Overall New for 2019 Lineup! The Golden, CO-based powerhouse held its ground against competitors that included Benchmade, Cold Steel, CRKT, We Knife Co., and Zero Tolerance.

2019, for Spyderco, with a brand new marketing strategy. In the past, the company launched a massive batch of reveals all at once; and while that was fun, it lead to frustration when a knife that was shown wouldn’t release for months or, in some cases, a year or more. Spyderco decided to switch to a new Product Guide framework, where a guide drops every so often with a smaller clutch of new models that are ready or nearly ready.

So far, the strategy seems to be paying off. It’s nice to see a new model, get excited for it, and see it appear on dealers’ shelves without an egregous delay. But this updated procedure also shows that, maybe more than any other knife company, Spyderco isn’t afraid to change things up, to try something new.

Their catalog this year embodies that willingness to experiment. Among the releases are meaningful line expansions like the Para 3 LW, which already took home a major Readers’ Choice Award, and the foundation of whole new lines like the Murray Carter Itamae series. In between Spyderco continued to give innovative community members like Paul Alexander, Jim Ankerson, and Darrin Sanders space to realize their unique visions. And if that wasn’t enough they found time to develop a cool app, churn out a dizzying array of Sprint Runs and limited edition models, and release a sequel to their flagship Delica/Endura series.

This is the second year in a row that Spyderco took home this award. Keeping so many different plates spinning takes some serious magic, but once again they made it seem easy.

This announcement concludes the 2nd Annual KnifeNews Readers’ Choice Awards! A huge congratulations to all nominees and winners. We also want to extend a giant thank you to our sponsors Work Sharp, who not only made this happen but participated as knife fans themselves.

Finally, our deepest thanks goes to you, our readers! We quite literally couldn’t do this, and wouldn’t be here, without your support.
