Ferrum Forge Lackey Voted Best New Fixed Blade for EDC 2019

Presented by: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpeners

The Ferrum Forge Lackey is the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice for Best New Fixed Blade for EDC 2019! The friendly, portable, dutiful Lackey managed to outpace other strong contenders in the category including the Hinderer Knives LP-1 Wharnie, the TOPS Poker, and the Bestech Heidi.

“Every now and then a blind squirrel finds a nut…” jokes Ferrum Forge’s Elliot Williamson. In truth Ferrum Forge has been consciously, ambitiously pursuing projects on multiple levels: custom pieces, production collaborations, and knives like the Lackey which are produced by OEMs for sale under Ferrum Forge’s own label. It’s an expansive strategy fitting of a much bigger company, but Ferrum Forge seems to excel under the heavy workload.

Williamson, who runs Ferrum Forge alongside brother Chris, tells us that in surveying the landscape of the EDC fixed blade category, the duo observed something was missing. “We looked out at the small fixed blade market and noticed a distinct lack of simple utility drop points and did our best to hit as low a price point as we could.”

The emphasis on budget-friendliness helped the Lackey stand out. Many knives, both of the fixed and folding variety, may be for ‘everyday’ but aren’t in the price range of ‘everybody.’ The Lackey hit the market well under $100; Ferrum Forge proved once again they weren’t afraid in bringing out some of their smartest designs in ways that made them available to the most amount of users.

Whoever picks up a Lackey will find that it is a rugged, efficient little cutter, able to tackle chores big and small. D2 steel is a welcome choice, as it’s capable of some truly impressive performance for the money. The Lackey also packed in all the streamlined cool factor that defines the Ferrum Forge style.

Williamson says that his shop is grateful for the award, and that he and Chris are already hard at work on the next step for the Lackey. “Thank you so much to the fine people that took the time to vote for the Lackey,” he says. “We do have plans to come out with Lackeys in stainless steels in 2020.”
