Darriel Caston Joins Forces with Böker for New Folder

Darriel Caston of D Rocket Design is teaming up with Böker for his next mainstream production release, the Rocket.

The Rocket is modeled after the Salvation custom knife, remastering the original’s angular, gadget geek-friendly design in humbler, but still functional, materials. The cutting edge is a 1.7 inch, sheepsfoot/cleaver style blade that Caston plays around with in many of his designs. In this case it made from 9Cr13MoV blade steel, and unlike many single-scale, dog tag-style knives, the Rocket’s blade is V-ground.

Böker and Caston gave the production Rocket a wide, long, deep finger groove that should facilitate one-hand as well as two-hand opening. Similar to what we saw on the last Caston production model, the Spyderco Squarehead, the locking mechanism is a slim, liner lock leaf. The Rocket has a horizontal cutout on its back end for a lanyard, necklace, or keychain, but does not have a pocket clip.

Böker situates the Rocket as a release in its Plus lineup. The Sölingen, Germany-based company has more separate lines than any other major manufacturer, but the Plus series will be familiar as a (mostly) budget-oriented line that utilizes entry-level materials. The Rocket comes in two varieties: a model with a G-10 scale and a slightly more premium iteration on which the scale has been upgraded to titanium. Other than this swap, the two models are identical, and the titanium model still comes in at a sub-$100 price point.

The Rocket is available now in Europe and expected to arrive stateside soon.
