Zero Tolerance has just released the 0357, their latest flipper knife design. The 0357 takes some cues from previous popular ZT releases and aims to deliver a high performance package at a relatively affordable price point. It’s also the first ZT release in several years to come with the SpeedSafe mechanism.
At its core, the 0357 comes across as a rugged, high performance, EDC-style knife. Its blade length is right in the zone for such a role, a 3.25-inch drop point sporting a harpoon-style swedge. The blade is a nearly continuous curve from the heel to the tip, flat ground, and made from CPM-20CV steel, available with either a stonewash finish or a BlackWash coating. The blade locks up with a liner lock mechanism and opens, like most ZT releases, comes with a flipper tab.
However, after years of producing exclusively manual flipper knives, ZT brought back the SpeedSafe for the 0357. This is parent company KAI’s proprietary spring-assisted opening mechanism, originally designed by none other than Ken Onion. SpeedSafe is still a relatively common site on Kershaw products but, in ZT’s current lineup, the 0357 will be one of only four models with the mechanism.
The 0357’s handle is also reminiscent of classic ZT designs, sporting that gentle humpbacked shape that defines the profiles of knives like the 0770 and the more recent 0308. Like both of those knives, the 0357 was created by ZT’s in-house design team, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it shares some of their attributes. The handle materials are G-10 over stainless steel liners, with a lanyard loop built into the backspacer. The 0357 weighs 4.3 oz. and comes with the short, deep carry, loop-over pocket clip.
The 0357’s announcement was first teased by ZT a couple days ago. Now that it is unveiled, it is scheduled to be available with dealers shortly. ZT is positioning the 0357 as one of their more budget-conscious designs. It’s still not a cheap knife, but it removes some of the bling to make the price tag more accessible. ZT has the MSRP set at $185 for the stonewash version – the lowest MSRP of any current ZT model except for the 0350.
