Today’s the day: It’s Blade Show, the knife event of the summer. The annual, Atlanta-based show is the stage for all sorts of important knife announcements, releases, and awards, and we’re excited to cover it again this year!
Obviously – and especially for those of us who aren’t able to attend in person – one of the major draws of Blade is the glut of new stuff that gets shown off on the exhibitors’ booths. Some important announcements are made ahead of the show – Kershaw, ZT, Spyderco, and CRKT have all done pre-show reveals – but there’s always at least a surprise or two during Blade itself.
Then there is the galaxy of events surrounding the actual show itself. There are two major knife competitions – the Balisong and BladeSports International Cutting Championship – as well as presentations/lectures from legendary personages in the knife world. This year, both Ernest Emerson and Ed Fowler will be delivering talks during the day tomorrow. Of course, there is also the allure of the Pit, the after-show party at which knife enthusiasts of all stripes get together to mix, mingle, and generally celebrate all things with an edge.
Last but not least, there are the Blade Show Knife of the Year Awards, which honor excellence in both the production and custom halves of the field. These awards can serve as a cheat sheet for some of the best, brightest, and most interesting makers working in the field today – and it’s not a bad way to bulk out a wishlist for the back half of the year either.
We’ll be covering it all here at KnifeNews, so stay tuned throughout the weekend and early next week for Blade Show content!
