Blade Show 2022: Demko Brings New Fixed Blade and Custom Folder to ATL

Andrew Demko brought not one, but two fresh 2022 designs to Blade Show this weekend. He’s got both an as-yet-unnamed fixed blade and his latest custom folder, the AD-22, on tap.

Fixed Blade

For all that they’re sought after by enthusiasts and collectors, Demko’s designs are always purpose-driven – and this new Fixed Blade is no exception. “This should be an all-terrain, all-purpose knife,” Demko tells us. The blade shape and handle both are adapted from his AD-20 folder, and Demko notes that the cutting edge length was key in making a fixed blade just as versatile in carry as his folders are. “I believe a 5″ drop point blade to be universally useful.” That blade will come in three different steels, depending on which version you pick up. “We will be making an in-house “MG” (machine ground) blade from Magnacut and importing AUS-10A and D-2 blades from Taiwan,” Demko explains.

And while Demko obviously didn’t need to implement one of his ingenious locks on a fixed blade, he took the opportunity to create a patent pending sheath design instead. “I believe the sheath to be quite unique in that it is able to be taken apart and cleaned,” he says. He also utilized both fabric nylon and stiff glass-filled nylon polymer in discreet locations. “Typical injection molded sheaths use glass-filled nylon that can almost instantly dull your cutting edge! In this case the blade only contacts the non-glassed-filled nylon, being very forgiving on your cutting edge, while still taking advantage of the glass-filled nylon in the frame for strength.”

AD-22

The latest custom Demko folder design will also take to the stage at Blade Show. Called the AD-22, it is similar in size to the AD20.5, with a 3-inch blade. “It has an integral pocket clip and backspacer,” says Demko. “This design allows for a deep carry pocket clip that is very low profile and is also reversible.” The first batch of AD-22s will be available for purchase at Blade Show, and come with Fat Carbon scales and Magnacut blade steel. We also asked Demko if he had any plans to adapt this design for his production line; here’s what he had to say: “The new AD-22 may become a standard model. We are introducing it in our custom lineup for now.”
