Blade Show West Runs Today and Tomorrow

You heard that right, pardners: Blade Show West, the rootin’ tootin’ younger brother to venerable Atlanta’s Blade Show, is upon us. While not as big as its bigger brother, Blade Show West has been growing steadily and offers not only a Who’s Who of the knife industry on the exhibition floor, but some special events running today and tomorrow.

Blade Show West is just a sprat, having first run in 2018 – although in point of fact it is actually the middle child of the Blade Show family, with Blade Show Texas the youngest, first running in 2022. It has taken place in different locations over its young life, including Portland, Oregon, which is widely considered to be the knife making capital of the United States. This year it is being held in Salt Lake City, Utah, a state that is no slouch when it comes to knife making history – nor are its geographical neighbors Colorado and Idaho.

Of course, Blade Show West doesn’t just draw the locals. Among the 250+ exhibitors this year are companies from all over the world, including We Knife Co. and its associated brands from China, Italy’s Fox Knives, and Three Rivers MFG, located in Massachusetts. There’s a lot going on, and a lot to see, and whether the show will provide the stage for some new product reveals remains to be seen, but if there are any big drops you can bet we will be covering them next week once the dust settles.

A knife show isn’t just about new products, though. Special events play a major role in the experience, and Blade Show West is offering two notable ones this year: knifemaker Lonnie Jensen is, as we speak, forging a knife on the show floor, which should be quite a sight; then there is this evening’s Blade Show West Awards, which will highlight exceptional blades in both the production and custom realms. The headline event for Saturday will be the West Coast Flipping Championships, where the world’s best balisong flippers compete for the top spot. Blade Show West is an appropriate venue for this competition given the long history of balisong culture on the West coast.

We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground this weekend, and report back with any Blade Show West highlights. The show runs today and tomorrow from 10:00am – 6:00pm in the Salt Palace Convention Center (Exhibition Hall 4). If you’re at the show right now, enjoy yourselves and travel safe!
