New Pinkerton Trailing Point Out Through Artisan

There’s a new Dirk Pinkerton/Artisan Cutlery collab on shelves now, called the Banjaara. The Banjaara sees Pinkerton once again working with the relatively rare, but highly capable, trailing point blade shape.

Actually, the last time we wrote about a Pinkerton trailing point was in 2020, and it was another Artisan release to boot, the Arroyo – although we didn’t know the knife’s name at the time. Compared to that knife, the Banjaara is larger; its blade measures 3.52 inches. Larger blade lengths work well with trailing points, because they give that exaggerated belly the room to, well, exaggerate itself; in conjunction with the extremely pointy tip, the Banjaara can slice, it can dice, and it can pierce.

In another significant difference from the Arroyo, the Banjaara goes for a full premium setup, which means a promotion in materials across the board – starting with the steel. In lieu of AR-RPM9, the Banjaara’s sporting an S90V steel blade, which should please the metalheads out there. S90V scores high across all three key knife steel metrics (edge retention, stain resistance, and toughness), but the most salient characteristic for the average user will be the edge retention: this steel keeps a licking and keeps on ticking.

Then, over on the arcing handle, we’ve got front and back scales made from slabs of titanium, embellished with a curvilinear motif. The presence of titanium here means that we get a steel-capped frame lock mechanism, too, as well as a sculpted pocket clip made from the stuff. Pinkerton has never been one to shy away from heavier knives, but the Banjaara is by no means an onerous carry; Artisan has its weight listed as a very reasonable 4.55 oz.

The Banjaara is available now.
