Poltergeist Works Sacra Shows off Integral Folded Spine

Jakub Wieczorkiewicz of Poltergeist Works and Real Steel Knives are readying another collaboration EDC knife called the Sacra. The Sacra packs RSK’s ambidextrous slide lock and embellishes its design with an unusual feature the company calls an Integral Folded Spine.

After a number of years in which the EDC market seemed to favor sub-3 inch blades, it appears that the mid-size blade is coming back into vogue. More and more we’re seeing knives with a cutting edge between 3 and 3.5 inches, and that’s the case with the Sacra as well. Its drop point blade measures 3.31 inches long, allowing it to be a handy cutter in a broad swathe of potential everyday cutting occasions. You flick open the blade with good ol’ fashioned thumb studs, and RSK’s Slide Lock, their take on the Axis Lock-style mechanism, is on tap to make this knife completely ambidextrous.

The blade steel is on one hand unusual, on the other hand familiar. It’s called K110, a steel from our friends at Bohler-Uddeholm. The name might not be familiar, but the fundamental formulation is; K110 is D2 by another name, which means that it will perform quite well for a budget category steel in terms of edge retention and toughness, while being more susceptible to rust and corrosion due to its semi-stainless nature.

The fold of the Integral Folded Spine works as the backspacer

A clean, stripped back handle profile works in any grip a user might need, but it gets spiced up thanks to an unusual flex of machining muscle: the Integral Folded Spine. Essentially, instead of using two separate liners and a backspacer between the Micarta scales, Wieczorkiewicz used a single, integral piece of steel for all three, with the fold that bridges the two liners functioning as the backspacer. The handle feature list also includes a reversible deep carry pocket clip, and in total the Sacra weighs 2.58 oz.

Real Steel says that the Sacra will be available in Mid-December, with an MSRP of $99.
