Jack Wolf Knives is keeping up an admirably consistent clip when it comes to new releases, with new models rolling out regularly. Their newest incoming piece is the Benny, another addition to the locking folder side of their line.
If you know your traditional knife history, you’ll see that the Benny is based on Tony Bose’s Lanny’s Clip profile. To be more strictly correct, it’s actually descended from Jack Wolf’s Benny’s Clip slipjoint, which is the knife that originally took inspiration from Bose’s famous knife, one of the few 20th century designs that has been unanimously adopted into the traditional knife pattern history book alongside much older profiles like the Barlow.
Family tree considerations to one side, the core of the Benny experience is the blade, a 3.25-inch clip ready for the full gamut of everyday carry work – including, thanks to its locking nature, heavier stuff that many users would not be comfortable using their slippies for. S90V, now the standard steel choice over at Jack Wolf after first appearing on the Javelina Jack in January 2023, ensures a very long-lived edge and high stain resistance to boot.
There’s nothing new to speak of material-wise on the handle – but when that means a handle fashioned from titanium and a suite of designer carbon fibers from Fat Carbon or Ultem, that’s no bad thing. The Benny’s frame lock arm (with its steel interface cap) is tucked underneath a scale, so even the off-side gets to show off the striking carbon fibers. A sculpted titanium pocket clip is also in tow; in total the Benny weighs 3.5 oz.
This one is slated for release at 11am Pacific/2pm EST on Friday, July 12th.
