CRKT Introduces New for 2018 Ruger Lineup

Hot on the heels of more than 20 new main label models, new for 2018 CRKT Ruger knives have been added to CRKT’s online catalog. Eight new models join the label’s growing stable, including the first Ruger blade equipped with Field Strip technology.

Returning designer Matthew Lerch dominates the 2018 Ruger releases. He’s responsible for five of the eight new models. His wife and fellow maker MJ Lerch also contributes her first design to Ruger. CRKT stalwarts Ken Onion and Bill Harsey also pitch in with one new design apiece. The new releases cover a wide variety of sizes and introduce some firsts into the lineup, including a sub-2-inch neck knife and a two-hand opening blade.

RTD: The Matthew Lerch-designed RTD is headlining the Ruger lineup. It is the first Ruger knife to feature the Field Strip technology. The convenient mechanism is sure to be a major selling point, but the other specs impress as well. The RTD has a 3.6-inch 1.4116 blade, but thanks to a narrow profile weighs just under 4 oz.

Windage: The Windage is a new Ken Onion design in the 2018 CRKT/Ruger catalog. It carries over the spine-riding clip from his Swindle knife, and its organic 3.8-inch blade rides on IKBS bearings. The frame is aluminum and blade steel is 8Cr13MoV.

High-Brass: Understated and straightforward, MJ’s Lerch’s High-Brass may not be the flashiest knife in the lineup, but its subdued appearance belies a hard-working design. A thumbstud kicks off the Outburst assisted mechanism, and its 3.1-inch 8Cr13MoV blade can be had in either plain edge or Veff serrations.

Over-Bore: The Over-Bore takes its place as the smallest folding knife in the Ruger lineup. Its 2.9-inch drop point 8Cr13MoV blade terminates in a needle-like point. A full stainless steel frame lock lends the little slicer significant strength.

Trajectory: Those who like the Over-Bore’s style but want a larger knife should examine to the Trajectory. It maintains a similar look, but opts for a quarter-inch longer blade and Outburst assist mechanism. The blade shape is a Persian-style trailing point for superior piercing and slicing capability.

LCK: This modern, angular flipper folder comes in either a drop point or a modified sheepsfoot blade. Patterned GRN scales and forward finger choil help make the LCK’s slim handle ergonomic, and a deep carry clip buries this knife in the pocket.

Carbine: The smallest fixed blade from Ruger this year, the Carbine’s 5Cr15MoV cutting edge is just 1.8-inches long. A scalloped handle offers a secure grip even with the tiny footprint, and a nylon sheath and lanyard expand the carry options.

Accurate Folder: The first Ruger Accurate was a large fixed blade, released last year. Its first line extension comes in the form of a mid-sized liner lock folder with traditional nail nick deployment. The unconventional Harsey design comes with a nylon sheath for belt carry as seen with classic two-hand folders like the Buck 110.
