Al Mar Knives Returns with Suite of Updated Classics

One of the the more surprising happenings in the knife world late last year was the evident resurgence of Al Mar Knives. The company revealed the first of what we now know is a new products, including surprising variants on classic Al Mar designs.

Ultralight Titanium Series

The Ultralight series of knives earned accolades for many years as well-made, featherweight folding knives. The next generation of ultralight models builds on that tradition. There are three blade lengths: 2.75, 3, or 4 inches – corresponding to the lengths of the original Hawk, Falcon, and Eagle blades. Those originals had linerless Micarta scales to thank for their low weight qualities; for these new version Al Mar Knives offers either FRN or titanium scales; in either configuration, the new models are just a tad heavier than their predecessors. The titanium versions have D2 steel and frame locks, while the FRN models sport 8Cr13MoV and liner locks. All the Ultralight models have ball bearing pivots and utilized flipper tabs instead of thumbstuds.

S.E.R.E. 2020 G

The S.E.R.E. model returns for 2020 in two different blade lengths: 3 inches, or a 3.6 inches, in plain or partially serrated setups. Either way the materials are the same: G-10 handle scales and D2 blade steel. The S.E.R.E. 2020 G models are also flippers but come with a spring-assist mechanism rather than a manual configuration.

Honey Jigged Bone Series

Al Mar Knives also chose to reboot its two-hand opening lockback models. Available in 2.5, 3.15, and 4 inch-bladed variations, the steel for these knives is AUS-8 across the board. The handle comes with honey jigged bone covers and a steel bolster. This knives are clipless, with a leather slip provided for carry.

Stinger

This is also a returning model, albeit more of a deep cut than the others. The Stinger is a keychain friendly fixed blade with a stubby 1.3-inch “wedge” blade shape. And as with many of its new stablemates the Stinger’s blade is made from D2 blade steel.
