Latest Civivi Trio Includes First Laconico Collaboration

As we near the end of 2022, we’re getting our first peeks at the new for 2023 knives manufacturers have on the way. It’s no surprise that Civivi, one of the most prolific makers in the world, already has three models slated for a February ’23 release, including their first collaboration model with Ray Laconico.

Sokoke

A mid-size EDC knife with a style reminiscent of other Laconico production faves, the Sokoke has a 3.31-inch blade, openable with either the thumb studs or a front flipper. 14C28N is the blade steel here, unless you go for the Damascus model; that version comes with black linen Micarta scales, while the standard versions come in either brown linen Micarta, green burlap Micarta, or black G-10.

Maxwell

Maciej Torbé is back with the third release in his series of Civivi fixed blades, each named after a luminary in the sciences. The Maxwell has more in common with the Kepler than the Planck, as it’s a sizeable, rugged looking beast. Its 4.74-inch blade is an elaborate American-style tanto, with a swedge and a fuller cut into that swedge. Made from D2, the full tang Maxwell’s blade is paired with a bracket-style handle with G-10 scales, and comes with a Kydex sheath. In total it weighs 9.38 oz.

Circulus

Meanwhile, returning designer Ostap Hel has the Circulus inbound, the polar opposite from the Maxwell in every way other than it too being a full tang fixed blade. Like Hel’s Minimis design, the Circulus has a sub-2 inch blade (1.96 inches to be exact), an everyday carry friendly size, both in terms of the tasks it can accomplish and its overall carryability. It too comes with a Kydex sheath, but this sheath has a pocket clip affixed to it, so it can function almost like a folder in terms of how it’s carried. The steel here is 10Cr15CoMoV, a VG-10 equivalent, so expect high rust resistance in particular.
