Blade Show West: Transforming Fixed Blade Joins Civivi Lineup

Naturally, the always prolific Civivi had new stuff to showcase over the weekend, at Blade Show West in Utah. Incoming releases include a beefy flipper knife and a budget-friendly version of one of the most technical models in the We Knife Co. lineup.

Typhoeus

AtBlade ’22 in Atlanta, the We Typhoeus was one of the highlights of We’s new for the show stuff. It is a morphing fixed blade that can switch between a traditional, “blade out the front” configuration and a push dagger-style setup. This kind of highly mechanical creation is not something you would necessarily expect to see translated into the Civivi lineup – and yet, here it is.

As you’re sure to have guessed, the big changes here are material ones, with aluminum or G-10 swapped in for the titanium handle on the original, and the 20CV blade steel altered to 14C28N. The blade is still 2.27 inches long but the shape looks to be altered: it’s much more of a drop point than the tanto blade on the We variation. The Civivi Typhoeus still comes with a leather sheath, however.

BullTusk

A name like “BullTusk” connotes a certain size and look, and we think the final product here lives up to those expectations. This knife’s 3.48-inch blade is wide, with an angular swedge that does make it look like the tusk of some big, bad land beast. Like the Typhoeus’, the BullTusk’s blade made from 14C28N steel, but unlike that knife the BullTusk opens conventionally, with either a spine flipper or thumb cutout.

The ergos here look squared away, with an arching handle made from G-10, Micarta, or, if you go for the Damascus blade variant, Ultem – a new favorite over there at Civivi HQ. A liner lock under the scales provides blade security, and a swappable pocket clip is on deck for carry purposes.

These new knives are scheduled for a release in December.
