Plastic sporks are commonly used in schools, prisons, and for airline meals, in part because of their functionality but mainly for their safety. A spork is useless as a weapon and that’s why they are placed in these settings. The whole purpose of a spork is what makes the idea of a tactical spork an amusing oxymoron.
But KA-BAR was dead serious yesterday when the company announced it would be entering the spork arena with the brand new KA-BAR Tactical Spork. The KA-BAR Tactical Spork sports a traditional KA-BAR Bowie style handle. The tool is made of Grilamid, a food safe nylon/plastic hybrid material that is strong and durable.

How does a tactical spork qualify as KnifeNews? Hidden within the handle is an accompanying knife. KA-BAR doesn’t specify the blade material, but the tool includes a 2.5” fully serrated blade. To deploy the blade, the user must pull in opposite directions and it easily snaps back in place for a safe close up. The KA-BAR Tactical Spork should be especially popular with outdoorsmen and campers since it delivers a complete eating utensil solution in a single, compact 6.875″ package.
The only other company to come close to a knife/spork design was TOPS Knives. In 2015, TOPS released photos of a prototype they were testing called the F.O.R.K. IT (see image below). The tool is a blade/spork combo with a bottle opener. It included a kydex sheath that also served as a handle when closed over the integrated blade. It’s still unclear if the F.O.R.K. IT will ever make it into the TOPS line-up.
The KA-BAR Tactical Spork is currently only available for sale on KA-BAR’s website. At a price of $6.93, expect this made in the USA product to pry open a lot of wallets.
