Buck Returns to 112 Ranger for April’s Buck of the Month

Well, Buck just managed to get its Buck of the Month for April out in time, with less than a week to spare. The cruelest month is definitely pretty kind for fans of the 112 Ranger, with a dressed-up version of the classic on offer for a limited time.

Buck kicked off 2022 with a clear focus on the Ranger. This marks the 50th anniversary of the knife, which is almost as popular as its predecessor, the inimitable 110 Folding Hunter. The Ranger could be thought of as the Delica to the 110’s Endura; the same essential design, but smaller for those who prefer more compact knives. The double-bolster’d handle and California clip blade that made the 110 so instantly recognizable and intuitive to use are present and accounted for, but the smaller footprint makes the 112 more amenable to the average EDC needs of today’s users.

The April ’22 Buck of the Month 112, of course, comes with fancy upgraded materials. The 3-inch blade is made from S35VN; you might have expected S45VN given that Buck has been an early and consistent adopter of the next generation steel, and even used it on another Buck of the Month Ranger back in December of ’21. However, the S35VN here is still a high-performance steel, especially given that it comes from heat treat guru Paul Bos. Opening and lockup are the same as they have been for five decades on the Ranger: two-hand, nail mark deployment and a back lock mechanism.

Carbon fiber of the marbled persuasion replaces the standard wood scales here, and the bolsters are brushed nickel silver. While 2022 (and years previous) have seen some more modern interpretations of the 112 format, this is the classic rendition, which means a fairly weighty knife at 6.4 oz. and no clip, just a leather belt sheath for carry.

This particular Buck of the Month is limited to 750 pieces so, even though it didn’t come out until the end of April, we don’t think there will be any left when May comes around next week.
