Demko Knives just revealed a new, budget-oriented version of their Shark-Cub folder. Changes to the handle material and blade steel make this the most affordable folder yet from Demko Knives.

We were first introduced to the Shark-Cub around Halloween ’23. It was a more compact take on the rugged, durable folder concept that Demko Knives earned renown for with the release of the production AD20.5. Like the AD20.5, the Shark-Cub benefited from the presence of Andrew Demko’s Shark Lock, one of several ultra-tough locking mechanisms from the maker. Back in 2022 Demko told us the Shark Lock was designed to be easy to use, and highly durable; after a few years on the market the user response would indicate that it lives up to that goal.

The new Shark-Cub does not deviate from the design of its upscale predecessor. It has the same 2.5-inch blade length, and has been shown in both clip point and Slicer Shark shapes. The first Shark-Cubs came with CPM-20CV steel, but this budget version opts for AUS-10A instead. This steel has earned comparisons to 440C and VG-10, which means that it delivers a highly stain resistant formula that holds an edge for a reasonable amount of time, even if it can’t compete in the echelon that super steels occupy.

Meanwhile, the handle scales, G-10 on the previous model, are here rendered in Grivory. There are generous chamfers in the regions where the fingers will lie, and a light texturing has been applied across both scales for grip. A loop over deep carry stainless steel pocket clip is present too, and can be swapped to either side, making the Shark-Cub 100% ambidextrous.

No release date on this one yet, but Demko Knives says they will be providing updates in the future. They have said the MSRP on this one will be $89.99.
