GiantMouse Opens up 2024 with Bigger Biblio Sequel

GiantMouse’s first release in the 2024 has arrived today, the Biblio XL. This one sees the GiantMouse design team of Jens Anso and Jesper Voxnaes revisiting a long-running model to scale it up a bit for those who like bigger blades.

This is a pretty notable size bump, but even if you like your EDCs compact, don’t let the “XL” designation scare you off; with a blade length gain of about .4 inches over its 2.8-inch predecessor, the Biblio XL, at 3.2 inches edge length, is still well within carry parameters for most users out there. That being said, if you’ve been around the knife block, you’ll know what a difference going over the 3-inch mark can make, so the Biblio XL may very well enjoy expanded capabilities over the original – or at least be able to handle certain tasks with greater felicity.

A brass backspacer replaces the barrel standoffs on the original Biblio

For the most part it’s business as usual outside of the new size. Anyone familiar with the original Biblio will recognize the blade shape, a modified wharncliffe (or modified drop point, take your pick) spiced up with a bit of organic flair – a blade shape that, like many in the GiantMouse lineup, really does bear the imprint of both designers’ styles. Outfitted with both an opening hole and a flipper, the Biblio XL comes in two different steels, tied to which handle material you go with: Vanadis 4 for the titanium handle, and Elmax for the Micarta one.

Both versions are liner lock knives, a mechanism that we see all over the GiantMouse lineup. The handle profile seems to have been carried over (albeit sligthly embiggened), but there is a difference in the construction: instead of barrel spacers, the Biblio XLs come with backspacer pieces made from brass – one of GiantMouse;s favorite materials. The Micarta model is significantly lighter than the titanium one, coming at 3.9 oz. compared to the Ti’s 5.1.

The Biblio XL is available now.
