Tomorrow IWA Outdoor Classics opens its doors for the first time in three years, providing a platform for manufacturers from around the world to network and show off products slated for release throughout the rest of 2022.
This is the first full IWA Outdoor Classics show since 2019. Obviously the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic hampered traditional shows throughout 2020 and ’21, and IWA was one of many shows affected. We kicked off 2022 with a physical SHOT Show, and now its European equivalent follows just a few months later.
Like SHOT Show, IWA isn’t strictly a knife show; rather, it’s a trade show for the entire outdoor industry that, due to its size and reach, has become a de facto place for production knife news. Granted, IWA can be a bit of a wild card in the reveal department: some years lots of new stuff debuts there, other times the pickings are decidedly slimmer. And, sensibly, if there are big reveals, they tend to come from European manufacturers like Mora, Opinel, and the Maniago companies.
For us, that unknown element is part of the fun at IWA – and regardless of entirely new stuff, the show will give European dealers and knife users a chance to see and handle previously-announced products for what is likely to be the first time. In terms of big U.S. companies, Spyderco, CRKT, and Rick Hinderer Knives are among the exhibitors who will be on the floor tomorrow.
IWA Outdoor Classics 2022 runs from March 3rd – 6th. We’ll be covering any reveals, so be sure to check back for the latest from this heavy hitter event!
