IWA Outdoor Classics is the Latest Heavy Hitter to Open Doors this Month

Need a breather between all the knife shows? Too bad! This weekend is another big one, IWA Outdoor Classics. This is a European corollary to SHOT Show, perhaps the biggest knife-related show in Europe, and a prime place for more big knife news.

Like SHOT, IWA Outdoor Classics is a trade show, and not even primarily a knife show; but given its size, this outdoors market event functions as one of the best places for knife companies to show off what new stuff they’ve got cooking. IWA actually has the edge on SHOT in terms of age, having first ran in 1974, compared to SHOT’s 1979 – but who’s counting? At that time the show drew less than 100 exhibitors; compare that to the more than 1000 companies that showed up last year and it’s easy to see how the show dominates the international outdoors industry.

We’ve seen some exciting stuff unveiled at IWA from North America-based companies – the Nuremburg-based show was where Rick Hinderer Knives debuted the XM-Slippy, for instance – but, as you can imagine, it is an ideal stage for European makers in particular to show off their stuff. Last year Morakniv unveiled the Ash Wood Outdoor Collection, a full suite of models in a heretofore unseen style.

IWA runs from Thursday, February 29th – Sunday, March 3rd from 9am – 6pm CET Thurs – Sat, and 9am – 4pm CET on Sunday. In between highlighting stuff from Blade Show Texas, the Spyderco Amsterdam Meet, and this IWA, we’ve got our work cut out for us, but stay tuned over the coming weeks as we break down all the latest and greatest from across the knife world.
