Jack Wolf is back in the labs again with their second collaboration project, the aptly named Collusion. This fixed blade comes from the mind of Jakeb Ginsberg and it is the maker’s take on the trendy and lovable wharncliffe pattern.
Ah, the wharncliffe: it’s a knife enthusiast’s knife blade, combining an unmistakable look with a wide variety of applications, and a flexibility that makes it particularly responsive to tweaks, riffs, and personal, maker-to-maker expression. As a relatively young maker, Ginsberg has worked his own sense of style into many different blade shapes, altering them to suit his own aesthetic without sacrificing their functionality – Ginsberg has visited the wharncliffe before, but this is the first time he’s done so in a production format.
At 3.14 inches in length, the Collusion’s particular wharnie fits smoothly and cleanly into the EDC category, with the additional hard use credentials brought about by its fixedness. Being released at the premium Jack Wolf level, the steel is also no slouch, of course: it’s S90V, a formidable fixture in the super steel scene years after its release thanks to impressive performance across the board, making it a good choice for a fixie like the Collusion as well as Jack Wolf slipjoints.
Two sweeping grooves are the defining feature of the Collusion’s handle; the ring and pinky finger fall into the bottom one, and the pointer and middle locate in the front one. The scales fill the hand and come in selections from the deep Jack Wolf handle material catalog: carbon fiber, titanium, linen Micarta, Kirinite, and red abalone. All collusion models come with a leather belt sheath for carry, which brings the total carry weight to 3.5 oz.; the knife on its own weighs just 1.7 oz.
The Collusion is dropping at 11am PST/2pm EST on Friday, August 15th.
