Latest batch of Mid-Tech L-Via Fixed Blades Arrives Today

Heads up: the Kopis Designs L-Via Mid-Tech is back for round three. The Ed Calderon-designed compact fixed blade comes made from proven materials and is capable of filling more roles than meets the eye.

“Tactical yet practical” may be an old chestnut in the knife world, but it absolutely applies to the L-Via. When it originally released in 2020, it was only available with rounded spine; in 2022 a second version came out with a concave spine. Both had the same hawkbill blade shape, a profile that’s often associated with self-defense applications. But, when the knife debuted, Kopis Designs founder Jon Bahlatzis advocated for the L-Via’s capablities beyond that narrow definition. For as much as that was part of its lineage, the L-Via was also a high-quality, mid-tech entry in the burgeoning genre of everyday carry fixed blades.

Like the blade, the L-Via’s upturned handle seems explicitly tactical, but more than capable of all-purpose utility too. “The handle shape combined with the texturing allows for a number of solid and ergonomic grip options, for everything from detailed carving and food prep to self defense,” were Bahlatzis’s words in June 2020, summing things up nicely. The simple GFN handle material is rugged and lightweight, while helping the price to stay within reason for a mid-tech piece. A Kydex sheath is included with each L-Via as well, for convenient carry options on the belt or in pocket.

The steel has not changed on this latest batch of L-Via mid-techs, with 154CM on tap. This is a stainless steel with a long history of service in the fixed blade and folder worlds, with a genial mix of edge retention and sharpenability. Both blade shapes are available in this batch again, offered in three different finishes: acid wash, satin, or tumbled.

The L-Via will be available today at 4pm EST, from KnivesShipFree.
