The 2018 USN Gathering is right around the corner, and makers are preparing their latest and greatest. Prometheus Design Werx has revealed a new collaboration version of the legendary Chris Reeve Knives Sebenza 21, the Special Projects Division Sebenza, for the late summer event.
“We’ve been long admirers of the Chris Reeve Knives family of products. Many of us have been longtime owners and users of their knives as well,” the team at PDW states. The two companies were an obvious match when it comes to overall aesthetic. Both play with functional, linear designs in service of industrial usability. “The Sebenza folders are at their core, embodiments of our brand’s design philosophy of sophistication through simplicity.”
The well-known Sebenza 21 specs remain the same on SPD version, which comes in both small and large configurations. Users can get the iconic 3.6- or 2.94-inch blade made from S35VN. The SPD Sebenza can be outfitted in either the single or double thumb stud configuration. What changes there are are all cosmetic: the fuller lines milled into the handle along with the Special Projects Division octopus logo. “The exclusive details found in the SPD Edition give our Sebenza 21s that extra finesse, industrial tool aesthetic and character unique to our brand. Without a doubt working with CRK has been a highlight for us in 2018 and we are stoked on the way these came out.” The company tells us the SPD Sebenza will make its debut for purchase at the Gathering.
The Gathering stands unique among knife shows for many reasons – not least of which because it doesn’t consider itself a ‘knife show.’ Hosted by the Usual Suspects Network (USN) – a popular internet forum, the Gathering is relatively intimate compared to the sprawl of Blade Show or SHOT. The Gathering sees makers displaying their wares amongst friends, collectors, and fellow craftsmen in compact, friendly table quads.
This year the Gathering celebrates its tenth anniversary. It runs Labor Day Weekend, from August 30th to September 1st.
