Here’s a very brief heads-up for a cool new limited release from GiantMouse last week that got lost in the pre-Blade Show Texas shuffle. The company dropped a 200 piece run of their Tribeca model, with a customized color scheme and, for the second time in its life, an upgrade to the handle material.
The standard, OG Tribeca came out in April of last year. The design itself was a winner, as you would expect from longtime collaborators, and longer-time custom knife makers Jens Anso and Jesper Voxnaes, but the Tribeca was doubly special due to it being the inaugural MagnaCut knife in the GiantMouse lineup; the stuff has spread a bit in the catalog since then and GiantMouse chose to keep it for this limited release too.
Dimensions are the same too, of course, so we once again have a 2.75-inch drop point, compact but rugged enough, with a nice wide profile and full flat grind. Opened with either the blade cutout or a spineside flipper, the blade rides on a ceramic bearing pivot and sports a low-key, even stonewash finish that looks nice, and stays nice-looking even after being put through use.
Gone are the G-10 handle scales of the original model, and gone are the gray titanium scales of the previous special run Tribeca from August ’23; here the titanium has been anodized a light mint green that catches the eye without coming across as garish in any way. GiantMouse loves its brass, whether as an accent piece or as a full scale material; here we see it in the former role. Rounding out the package is the loop over wire carry pocket clip, reversible to either side, that the standard version also has; one final note is that the switch to titanium still does not change the locking mechanism, so there’s a separate steel liner lock underneath the titanium exterior.
GiantMouse dropped this one last week and, surprisingly, it’s still available, but with a small single run we don’t think that will be the case much longer.
