Christmas 2023 is behind us, which means that we’re in the small interzone between the biggest holiday of the year and January 2024, when SHOT Show 2024 will open its doors and manufacturers roll out their first round of models for the new year. That hasn’t stopped We Knife Co. from keeping up its breakneck pace in the meantime, however. They’ve got their second Tashi Bharucha collaboration model on the way, the One and Only, or OAO to its friends.
One of France’s premier knife makers, Bharucha has a penchant for brash linework paired with a clean, industrial styling, a combo that may seem incongruous on the surface but, somehow, harmonizes into a striking and memorable whole. The OAO shares in that heritage and also, premium piece though it is, comes with specs that are ideal for everyday carry; the 3.4-inch, low-slung drop point can power through the usual daily chores, thanks both to its streamlined geometry and its blade steel, CPM 20CV. This stuff is We’s favorite steel, and it can go for marathon stretches between sharpenings in an EDC role.
The OAO’s blade folds deep into the handle; so deep that it nearly vanishes completely, and the only opening method here is the square, spine-side flipper tab. Once it’s open, you’ll see that We has lavished some extra attention onto the finish: depending on which flavor you pick up, you’ll get either a two-tone finish, hand rubbed satin, or a full-coated blade with subtle texture differences between flat and primary grind.
In other words, the OAO possesses an indisputably premium feel. That feeling is reinforced by the fact that the OAO is, in fact, an integral knife, with the titanium frame beneath the onlay consisting of a single piece of 3D-machined titanium. Extravagant materials are on tap for the onlay, with three different, custom carbon fiber scales on offer as well as a cosmic purple timascus option (pictured in feature image).
The OAO should be one of the first new for 2024 We Knife models on shelves next month.
