We Knife Co. Hawks Its Wares with the Tiercel

The new We Knife Co. Tiercel is named after a falcon, and this is a case where the name lines up perfectly with the look of the piece. The Tiercel flaunts a talon-like wharnie blade made to pierce and slice.

One cultivates such a rich vocabulary in covering knives. We didn’t know before today, for instance, that a “tiercel” is a kind of hawk or falcon, but now we do – and we can see how the team settled on that name with a single glance at this folder’s blade. It’s a 3.24-inch wharncliffe, opened via cutout or clipper tab, and it delivers the classic wharncliffe formula: a long straight edge, and a low but very acute point; no modifications to the time-tested pattern here.

The color scheme on this one is unique

The Tiercel is one of the small-but-growing subset of We Knife Co. models made from CPM MagnaCut steel. Historically the company has always favored M390, but in recent years we’ve seen them branch into other formulae, Larrin Thomas’s standard-setting recipe included. We envision the Tiercel as a day-to-day user, and these day-to-day users will get a lot of mileage out of MagnaCut. They’ll also get a lot of control over this wharnie thanks to the jimped thumb ramp that will help to steer the blade through high-precision cuts.

Handle-side, the We design team stripped away virtually everything extraneous and left a grip that is admirably simple and uncluttered. The scales are made from titanium, gentle contoured and built with a frame lock arm on the off side. The pocket clip is made from sculpted titanium as well, and is configured for right side, tip-up carry. No damascus offering on the Tiercel, but if you want to get a little fancy with it there are two versions with dressed up titanium scales: one flavor comes with a blue/purple whorl pattern, while another goes for a psychedelic-looking flamed ti look. The Tiercel weighs 2.54 oz.

It is slated to ship at the end of October.
