SHOT Day 2: Case Preps Assisted-Opening Westline

W.R. Case is growing one of its more recent collections this spring with the imminent release of the Westline, a new EDC folder with thoroughly modern fixings. The Westline is also the first Case knife to feature an assisted-opening opening method.

The stated goal with the Westline is to offer an everyday carry user. Compared to the handful of modern folders that Case released prior, the Westline’s blade profile does its own thing, going for a leaf-style drop point with a partial flat grind and extended swedge topside. This swedge gives the knife a bit of daggerish swagger, although, for the record, it’s not dagger-ground.

We never thought we’d say the words, but the Westline is a W.R. Case knife with an assisted opening mechanism! Unless you’re an exclusive traditional knife user, you probably know how it works: a push on the ramped thumb studs actuates the mechanism, which does the rest of the work in bringing the knife into an opened and locked position. The Westline is a liner lock, which is something that it does have in common with the modern Case folders that preceded it.

Other than a mild front to back arcing shape, there isn’t much to be said about the Westline’s profile: it’s almost as intuitive as the traditional handle patterns we see across most of Case’s catalog. The multifaceted aluminum scales come in red, blue, black, or silver; all flavors have the same dimensions and the same deep carry pocket clip – reversible to either side, by the way. Case lists the Westline’s weight at 4.5 oz.
