SOG Appoints New VP of Marketing

SOG is appointing Jonathan Wegner as the new Vice President of Marketing, effective immediately. The marketing and design specialist is taking the helm just ahead of SHOT Show 2018.

Wegner is new to knives but no stranger to the importance of design and brand image. “With more than a decade of high-level marketing and communications experience, Wegner honed his professional skills working in a mix of companies,” SOG tells us. He spent time as a founding management member for LifeProof, then moved on to become Communications Director at the Otter Company.

“Given his past professional successes, Jonathan will play a key role in our long-term vision for SOG,” says SOG CEO Joe Mc Swiney, who joined the company at the beginning of 2017. “As we develop and execute on a broad-based update and strengthening of our brand, we’ll lean heavily on Jonathan to bring his strategic capabilities into the mix.”

SOG Executives

A central element of the VP of Marketing position involves the ongoing development of the SOG brand. The company has made significant shifts to grow its market position and image over the last few years. SOG moved into new markets other than the tactical with the modern lifestyle-friendly Baton series. They also targeted premium price points and domestic manufacturing with their new USA line. “As a long-time SOG user, I’m honored to be given the opportunity to progress the brand and build on SOG’s 30-year pedigree,” Wegner says.

Alongside this appointment, longtime SOG team member Chris Cashbaugh will be moving into a new position as Senior Director of Product Line Management. According to Wegner both his and Cashbaugh’s appoint will play into the developing company’s future. “There’s a compelling roadmap planned for the next several years designed to emphasize SOG’s commitment to making products that enable our core users, leverage key technologies and introduce new developments that will continue our tradition of equipping users with tools they trust and rely on.”
