Civivi Gives Fans the Chance to Name Newest Knife

Civivi is readying a new knife for release in June, and it’s called – well, it doesn’t have a name yet. In fact, the budget-focused brand is asking its fans for help in naming the new blade with a month-long contest.

The (currently) nameless knife is an in-house Civivi piece, following two other recent reveals by the company’s design team, the Dogma and the Mini Bullmastiff. Civivi seems to be paying particular attention to blade shape with this latest spate of models. The nameless knife gives the choice between two different blade shapes: a drop point or a tanto. Either blade measures an EDC-friendly 3.35 inches long, is made from 8Cr14MoV, and comes with an acid wash finish. For an opener Civivi made an an extra large blade cutout, instead of the ubiquitous flipper.

The knife’s handle design is slightly arched and tapers as it moves toward the back end. Like many of its Civivi brethren, the nameless knife is a liner lock. It also uses the same loop-over deep carry clip making the round on lots of recent Civivi releases. For those so inclined, a lanyard loop is built into the backspacer. The knife also comes in multiple flavors of G-10; users have the choice between black, blue, green, gray, and orange no matter which of the two blade shapes they choose.

While this model will be available for purchase next month, the best way to get your hands on one is by enterting Civivi’s contest to name it. The contest, which is on right now, is composed of two rounds. In Round 1, you’re allowed to submit as many name ideas as you want through the official form. Civivi will sort through the entries and pick their five favorite options and send them to you for Round 2, which runs from May 25th to June 5th. In Round 2 everyone gets one vote for their favorite of the five names, and that name will be the official model name for the new knife.

Whoever’s name wins will of course get the knife when it releases, as well as two other Civivi models of their choice.

Civivi’s contest is the second recent challenge from a knife company. Last week Kizer announced its Fans Design Day contest, which is giving fans a chance to create a morale patch and/or a small tool, with the winner in each category being brought into production.
