Terrain 365, brainchild of designer Patricka Ma, has just released the Invictus-AT G-10 in conjunction with Prometheus Design Werx. This is the latest version of the Invictus model, a knife that Ma originally created to allow for many variations.
The Invictus-AT G-10 serves as an alternative to the titanium-handled Terrain 365 Invictus that released a couple of years ago. By replacing that show side scale with a machined G-10 slab, Terrain 365 here has reduced the weight by a tenth of an ounce, bringing it down to 4.4 oz.
The alteration is mild, but one that Ma says is driven by a desire to maximize utility – a central value to Terrain 365 in general. “In keeping with our primary objectives, we set out to make purpose-driven edged tools that are field expedient, possess lasting cutting performance, and operate in
just about any environment with little to no maintenance.”
Ma also makes no bones about his own predilections when it comes to folder handles “I find that G10 and even micarta as handle materials are my personal preference when carrying in the field,” he continues. “In my opinion, they tend to offer a better grip feel in wet conditions, and when backpacking, the less weight the better.”
The original Invictus launched in 2016 through Prometheus Design Werx, another Ma-founded company. It built on the Dauntless Project, in which Ma created a central knife concept, and allowed designers to then riff on that concept while retaining a clutch of central elements. In the case of the Invictus, those elements are: the spear point blade, symmetrical, tapered handle, fullers on the handle, and the forward choil.
Like many, but not all, of Terrain 365’s designs, the Invictus-AT G-10’s blade is made from Terravantium, the dendritic cobalt alloy that is a proprietary material for Terrain 365. “As a company we did not set out to replace steel blade alloys, rather offer our Terravantium as a high-performance alternative for those who adventure anywhere on land or in
the water,” Ma says.
