New Ferrum Forge Collab on the Way from Civivi

The next knife up for release from Civivi is the company’s latest collaboration with Ferrum Forge Knife Works, called the Stylum. The Stylum has the hallmark Ferrum Forge characteristics, and also marks the debut of a new steel for a Civivi flipper.

It can be hard to stand out in the knife world with subtle knife designs, but Ferrum Forge has managed to do it over and over again; the blades coming from brothers Chris and Elliot Williamson manage to be both simple and distinct, and the Stylum follows in that, um, style. Its low-slung drop point blade brings to mind other Ferrum Forge favorites like the Gent – and, at 2.96 inches in length, it falls into the same EDC category as that highly successful knife. The Stylum distinguishes itself as the first front flipper Civivi design from Ferrum Forge, with no secondary opening apparatus included. It’s a choice that gives the Stylum an especially compact and streamlined profile, even compared to its sleek Ferrum Forge stablemates.

Compared to other Civivi products, the Stylum also distinguishes itself with its blade. 10Cr15CoMoV is a stainless steel that we’ve seen Civivi implement just once before, and that was the fixed blade Elementum. Firsthand data on this steel is still thin on the ground, but according to the metallurgical maven Gator over at ZKnives, it is most likely an equivalent to Japanese VG-10 steel. That means that the performance should be a notch above the other common “CrMoV” steels seen on budget releases, and a much higher propensity for stain resistance compared to D2, another Civivi fave.

The Stylum’s clip is as simple as its handle

A very shallow finger groove is the only visual landmark on this handle, which has letterboxed scales, available in three different flavors of Micarta. The main element of note here is that the Stylum is not a locking knife; instead, it utilizes a double detent-style slipjoint mechanism to keep it secure in open and closed positions. The expected deep carry pocket clip rounds out the list of features, and the Stylum weighs a svelte 2.4 oz.

According to Civivi, this one is expected to arrive with dealers by the end of July.
