Morakniv Unveils Full Tang Ash Wood Collection

IWA OutdoorClassics kicked off yesterday in Nürnberg and, as we’d hoped, some of our favorite European manufacturers brought big news with them. Sweden’s Morakniv had one of the biggest reveals, dropping a four-knife series called the Ash Wood Collection.

Actually the 3D-machined ash handles are only one element of what these knives offer. All four are full tang; until now the only full tang Mora was the Garberg. Also worth noting is that the steel on these knives is a stainless that Mora calls “Swedish recycled steel.” We’ve reached out for more information on this formulation, so the jury’s out on the performance at this point.

Wit

The Wit sets the standard in the Ash Wood line, with a 4.05 inch blade in that classic Mora drop point shape. It’s the ideal all-arounder, suited for for hiking, camping, and general woodcraft. It’s bigger than the Finn (see below), and has a more defined bracket-like shape to its handle.

Finn

Smallest of the Ash Wood knives, the Finn also has the most visual similarities with the archetypal Mora knife. The handle isn’t quite that classic barrel shape, but it’s close, and paired with a blade that is 3.43 inches long. That makes it a viable companion outdoors knife, but it’s also the most EDCable of the Ash Woods, if that’s your thing.

Lok

With a 4.29-inch cutting edge, the Lok is the second biggest knife in the Ash Wood serise. Mora capitalized on that bigger blade by upping the blade thickness; at 3.2mm the Lok is much more robust, so this is the go-to for the more punishing outdoors tasks.

Rombo

The 4.69-inch Rombo is the biggest, and most distinct-looking member of the new lineup. In fact, with its wide cleaver shape, it’s unlike anything Mora has ever released. The choice of blade here isn’t just trend-chasing; Mora says this one is optimized for doing outdoors cooking chores.
