Jonathan Styles-Designed Fighter Kicks off New Kizer Cares Series

Kizer’s mid-year release stampede continues, but the newest addition to their lineup is a little unique. The Jonathan Styles-designed Fighter gives users a fresh choice for a simple, hardworking knife while also doing a little something for the world at large, with a small portion of each Fighter purchased going to help in the fight against cancer.

There are knives that focus on pushing the boundaries of design, flaunting wild blade shapes, taking risks with ergonomics, or serving as a platform for advanced materials. Then, there are knives that simply focus on fulfilling the basic role of a cutting tool well. The two categories aren’t mutually exclusive of course, but the Fighter falls into the latter camp, with a recognizable, universal profile that immediately communicates its role as all-purpose workhorse. The core of the experience is the blade, a clean, swedge-sporting drop point that measures 3.19 inches. These are great specs for an EDC knife, something nimble enough to do small chores with aplomb but also able to tackle bigger jobs head on.

The Fighter’s focus on the basics continues in the opening method: there are no flippers of any sort here, just an ambidextrous thumb stud. The steel between those studs is 154CM, upon which Kizer often relies for these entry-level releases, a proven stainless that may not be the best at any one thing, but that does everything decently and requires no special knowledge to maintain.

Styles’s handle design is also comprised of familiar favorites: steel liners underneath, G-10 scales on top. The profile these elements are shaped into is one that, in a thousand little variations, has defined the folding knife for decades: finger guard, finger groove beneath, gently curved spine. But those green G-10 scales have a purple cancer ribbon cut into their flats, which indicates the special purpose behind the Fighter. It inaugurates a new line from Kizer called Kizer Cares, which will be a series of releases dedicated to contributing to the fight against cancer.
