Today marks the date that Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrived in a flying DeLorean from 1985 in “Back to the Future Part II.” Our October 21, 2015 may not have the self-lacing shoes and nuclear fusion powered cars of McFly’s, but at least we don’t use fax machines much any more.
Fans of the movies are celebrating October 21, 2015 as “Back to the Future day,” including Quartermaster knives. “Ever since the inception of Quartermaster back in 2012, we’ve named our knives after characters who’ve appeared in popular television shows and movies in the 80’s and 90’s,” said Jared West of Quartermaster Knives.
Four new QTRMSTR knives released this year are named after characters from Back to the Future. “I am a child of the 80’s and was a huge fan of the movies growing up,” said Jamie Quinn of GPKnives an online dealer that sells the knives. “The ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy was a cornerstone in the youths of nearly every employee here at Quartermaster, so it seemed fitting that our latest lineup of knives for 2015 would bear these memorable names,” added West.
QTRMSTR Marty McFly
First in the series, the QTRMSTR Marty McFly is a bali-song made in their characteristic angular, geometric style. The knife’s sharp tanto blade can be easily exchanged for a dull trainer blade, included with the knife, for safe flipping practice.
QTRMSTR Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown
The QTRMSTR Emmett Doc Brown is a titanium framelock flipper, as thin and wiry as the mad inventor’s hair with a slender handle and a long wharncliffe blade. Designed in collaboration with custom motorcycle fabricator Auston Weiss, the action is “as smooth as the throttle on his bikes.”
QTRMSTR Biff Tannen
The bully from Back to the Future gets the QTRMSTR treatment – stout, aggressive design. Another titanium framelock flipper, the QTRMSTR Biff Tannen features unusual and striking jimping they call “tracers,” made by wire EDM cutting into the blade and handle.
QTRMSTR Mr. Strickland
Named after the Hill Valley High School disciplinarian who hated “slackers,” the last knife in QTRMSTR’s 2015 Back to the Future-named lineup “will be available through our distinguished dealers in November,” according to Jared West. Only 300 pieces of each of three colorways will be made, all serialized. West calls this picture, featuring all three colors, “The Flux Capacitor.”
