Blade Show 2022: We/Civivi Recap Showcase

Blade Show is always one of the highlights of the knife year, but it isn’t always a major source of new releases. Blade Show 2022, however, most certainly bucked that trend, with major reveals from companies and makers of all sizes.

Naturally, We Knife Co. got in on the action, with a clutch of new blades in both their main and Civivi lines. Both collaboration models and and innovative, mechanically complex in-house designs are on the way later this year.

Civivi Catalyst 2

This is a shrunk-down, production version of the TuffKnives custom Catalyst. It seems EDC ready, with a 2.97-inch clip point blade opened via thumb stud or flipper, and made from Nitro-V steel. The Catalyst 2’s plain but effective handle shape is comprised of steel liners with G-10 scales laid on top.

Civivi P87

Custom maker Kaila Cumings makes her Civivi debut here with the P87. Cumings is best-known for her fixed blades, but the P87 is a folder, sporting a 2.95-inch D2 wharnie blade that fires open with a flipper tab. Its elongated handle has a liner lock and G-10 scales, just like the Catalyst 2.

Civivi Ki-V Plus

Ostap Hel‘s first Civivi collaboration, 2021’s Ki-V, gets a bigger brother this year. The Ki-V Plus is still a modern take on the kiridashi, but its larger 2.52-inch blade will be more capable task-wise, and sturdier too, as there is now a liner lock under the hood.

Civivi Clavi

New Civivi/Hel model no. 2 is the Clavi. With its slim handle, the Clavi brings to mind some of Hel’s earliest production designs, like the Metamorph from Real Steel. The pointy wharncliffe blade measures just over 3 inches and is made from 14C28N.

WE Baloo

Hel also contributed this premium piece to the main WE line. A frame lock flipper, the Baloo’s handsome, rotund drop point runs to 3.3 inches and is made from high-performance CPM-20CV. Three different Baloos are slated for release, with different anos and inlays.

WE Typhoeus

Clearly WE’s internal designers haven’t lost their taste for wild mechanical innovation. Check out the Typhoeus, which transforms between a push dagger and a traditional, vertically-oriented knife. The handle is all Ti, and the 2.27-inch tanto blade is made from CPM-20CV.

WE Bulwark

Wild WE knife no. 2 is the Bulwark, a liner lock flipper with a secondary, combination-style bar lock housed in its spine. Mechanical whizbangery aside, the Bulwark looks like a rugged and reliable folder, with a mid-size 3.48 inch spear blade, made once again from CPM-20CV.

WE Soothsayer

It’s not identical to the Bulwark above, but the Soothsayer partakes of a similar visual language as its combo lock’d compeer. Its handle is clean and simple, and its spear point blade measures 3.48 inches. It has an inset titanium frame lock and 2/3rds carbon fiber scales.

WE Starhawk

Last but not least, we have the Starhawk, a fittingly futuristic folder. This tank-like flipper’s 2.8-inch blade is an intriguing, bulbous modified sheepsfoot, with a long, aesthetic fuller cut into both blade flats. Like its stablemates, the Starhawk has CPM-20CV blade steel.
