Blade Show 2023: 3rd Spartan-Harsey Collaboration Debuts in Atlanta

There’s a new fixed blade from Spartan on the stage at Blade Show 2023. The Spartan-Harsey Kukri marks the third time the company has partnered with knife legend Bill Harsey, Jr., and they have turned out their biggest collaboration yet.

In the accelerated atmosphere of the modern knife market, we see all sorts of experimentation with classic knife designs. The kukri is no exception; it’s been translated into different sizes and genres from keychain-sized collectible, to everyday carry, to modern tactical. The Spartan-Harsey Kukri takes the design back to something closer to its original role. This is a full-sized, full-featured kukri, with the traditional arching blade terminating in a bulbous, recurve tip. One distinctive element here is the harpoon swedge – a modern touch that evokes the modern military style that Harsey is associated with in the larger custom knife world.

The blade steel is 1095 Cro-Van, a standby at Spartan and the same stuff used on the previous two Harsey collaboration models. A carbon steel, 1095 CV is a historically proven fit for outdoors knives, with a huge capacity for hard work and an innate ability to recover from the shocks and other rough handling of the outdoor knife life. The black blade coating helps address corrosion/rust concerns, too.

If you’ve seen the other Spartan-Harsey blades, the handle shape will be familiar to you: a general curving shape with a single raised section in the middle of the grip, and a guard up top. The injection-molded scales are thick and 3D-contoured, laid over quite a beefy steel frame – .25″ thick according to Spartan.

The Spartan-Harsey Kukri is making its debut at Blade Show right now. It will be available to purchase in general next week.
