Our coverage of Böker’s 2021 releases continues with this year’s special edition Collection knife. The 2021 Collection piece is a design by custom maker Todd Rexford.
For those unaware, the Böker Plus Collection is the name given to a limited edition, premium quality knife released each year. Last year, the design came from frequent collaborator Lucas Burnley; Rexford has worked with Böker before on some non-limited releases, but has not turned out anything new with them in some time.
In his custom work, Rexford likes to take clean, almost simple designs and elevate them with impeccable finish, luxurious materials, and immaculate mechanical function. The Collection 2021 knife brings this aesthetic into a (high-end) production format, starting with the blade. Measuring 3.46 inches, it’s a handsome, classical drop point shape, running on ball bearings and opened with a bronze anodized thumb stud. The blade steel is M390, which enhances the drop point’s general utility with long lasting edge retention and stain resistance – although most Collection 2021 knives will probably end up as collector pieces rather than daily users.
The handle materials may not be surprising, but they certainly fall into the premium category. The off-side scale is entirely titanium and incorporates the frame lock mechanism (capped by internal steel insert, of course), while the show side scale has a 2/3rds marbled carbon fiber scale and titanium bolster. An anodized pivot collar matches the thumb stud and standoffs. The pocket clip is made from sculpted titanium and has a ball-bearing style retention point. The Collection 2021 knife weighs 4.69 oz. and comes with a nylon pouch for storage.
The Böker Plus Collection 2021 knife will be limited to just 500 pieces worldwide. Each one comes with a certificate should anyone doubt the authenticity of your purchase. The knife is expected to be available on February 19th, and is one of the first 2021 Böker releases to hit shelves. The company has lots more on the way; stay tuned for more Böker 2021 coverage in the coming days.
