Gerber Gives Us a New Folder and Multitool for the Fall

A pair of new Gerber models are on the cusp of release. These fresh designs see Gerber adding to two of its favorite genres: affordable modern folder, and multitool.

Affinity

With the Affinity, we see Gerber once again marrying budget materials to a very trendy, fresh look. But despite the sleek lines, the Affinity is actually kind of a big boy: its drop point blade runs to 3.70 inches in length. The blade steel on the standard model is 7Cr17MoV, which might be a little disappointing, but does help the Affinity hit a sub-$40 MSRP. The thumb stud deployment is spiced up a bit by being adjustable within the blade cutout, so users can tweak its exact position to suit their hand size.

Speaking of hand size, the Affinity’s big blade means it has a nice, big, roomy handle. The scales of the standard version are made from aluminum – including the frame lock bar, which also has an overtravel stop laid over it. But you can also choose to get an upgraded (albeit still affordable) model with a copper front scale and coated D2 blade; Gerber lists both knives as having the same weight of 4.62 oz., but we suspect that’s a typo, and that the copper-handled model will weigh a bit more.

Lockdown

The Lockdown is a quirky little multifunctional knife. The main tool is its one-hand opening, locking, 2.5-inch drop point blade, but that blade is joined by a suite of other tools, including a flat head driver and a file. One of two unusual elements on the Lockdown is the presence of a utility knife arm, which accepts #11 replaceable blades. The other twist comes in the form of a variable main tool, which differs between the two Lockdown flavors: the Pry and the Drive. The Pry has a wide pry bar at the back end, while the Drive packs in a folding 3D driver with a reversible 1/4″ bit.

On either Lockdown model, the tools are packed into a neat square handle, complete with deep carry pocket clip. The Pry model is a bit of a chunk, with a weight of 5.7 oz., while the Drive model is notably lighter at 4.5 oz.

Both the Affinity and Lockdown lines are arriving with dealers shortly.
