Mora Eldris LightDuty Voted Best New EDC Fixed Blade 2020

Presented by: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpeners

The Mora Eldris LightDuty is the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice for Best New EDC Fixed Blade 2020! This little Swedish beauty bagged the big one in a category that also included the Artisan Cutlery Sea Snake, Bestech Hedron, and the Viper Berus 1/2.

What makes an EDC fixed blade an EDC fixed blade? Well, the category is still a little nebulous. The specifications of the genre vary with the needs of the users. But if any knife could be held up as a textbook example of the form, the Mora Eldris LightDuty would be that knife.

The LightDuty is a simple – but surprisingly transformative – sequel to the original Eldris, which came out in 2016. The Eldris debuted with a compound grind: there was a thicker, scandi portion complimented by a more dished out, detail-oriented tip. By switching to a single, simpler scandi grind on the LightDuty, Mora created the ideal EDC version of this popular mini knife design.

The LightDuty’s nimble blade can whittle, slice, zip open packages, cut up an apple – all the things an EDC folder can do with the added rigidity of a fixed blade design. The ergonomics, too, are a step up from what you’d find on a folder of comparable blade length. Mora’s barrel-shaped handle fills the palm and feels completely natural. It’s really no wonder similar handle shapes have been a part of Swedish knife culture for centuries.

Mora created waves with the Eldris because it was the first time they catered directly to the modern EDC community’s desire for small, lightweight, affordable, hard-working blades. The LightDuty, with its refined blade shape, takes that concept one step further and is ready to be a reliable companion for users everywhere.

Tune in tomorrow afternoon to see which knife won the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice Award for Best Outdoors Fixed Blade 2020!
