New Artisan/Cerberus Knives Collab Lands for October

Artisan Cutlery rolled out a new collaboration model with Cerberus Knives, the Satyr. Made from premium materials but spec’d for no-nonsense utility work, the Satyr embodies the Cerberus Knives spirit.

Chris Ortiz is the maker behind the Cerberus Knives shop name; he makes aftermarket scales for production knives as well as his own EDC tools and custom fixed blades. Ortiz’s fixies vary in size, from very small to mid-size, but all of them sport a very clean, pared back aesthetic built around hearty, intuitive drop or spear point blade shapes. Ortiz’s previous Artisan collaboration, the Arion, showed off his spear point style, and now the larger Satyr does the same for the drop point.

The clip sports the same fine line milling as the scales

The blade length is 3.35 inches, which should make the Satyr an intuitive choice for just about any EDC chore you’d care to mention. But the wide profile and, more importantly, presence of S90V blade steel, means that the Satyr can handily jump into the rigors of harder chores too – dare we say outdoors work? S90V is a super steel stalwart, and one of those elite few in the older generations that can stand toe to toe with newer stuff; ever since it first started appearing in production knives, S90V has enjoyed a reputation for very high edge retention, and it’s no slouch when it comes to stain resistance either.

But despite all the innate ruggedness, there are elements of elegance here too, thanks primarily to the Satyr’s full, faceted titanium scales, embellished with fine line milling, which give some grippiness and add visual swagger to the monochrome package. The Satyr weighs 3.85 oz. and its pocket clip, made from titanium, is also line-milled.
