Tactile Maverick Gets Limited Carbon Fiber Release

If you haven’t picked up a Tactile Knife Co. Maverick yet, a new limited release that went up today may be enough to tempt you into doing so. This small batch of Mavericks come with scales made from Fatcarbon carbon fiber instead of the standard titanium or Micarta.

Released late last year, the Maverick made waves, not just because it was the third release from Tactile after the smash hit Rockwall and Bexar models, but also because it was the first knife from the company made in conjunction with an outside collaborator, custom maker Richard Rogers. It is also the biggest folder in the Tactile lineup, with a 3.6-inch drop point blade. And Tactile was one of the first production companies to start integrating MagnaCut into their lineup, so naturally the Maverick’s blade was made from the stuff as well. Topping off the list of features was the Crossbar Lock, an Axis Lock-style mechanism that made the Maverick fairly ambidextrous and also fidget friendly.

The only element changed on this batch is the handle scale material: there are five varieties of Fatcarbon carbon fiber on offer. Fatcarbon is one of the go-to sources for non-standard carbon fiber configurations; we’ve seen their stuff all over the knife world in recent years, so it’s no surprise that Tactile chose them for this particular release. In addition to the all important Cool Factor and collectability, the Fatcarbon scales bring the weight on the Maverick down to 2.8 oz. – which is just a hair above the weight of the Micarta model.

The carbon fiber here has that signature Tactile texturing, so even with the different in-hand feel and balance due to the weight difference, keeping your grip on these Mavericks shouldn’t be a problem. Carry is the same too, with the same titanium pocket clip, fairly deep carry but not reversible to the other side – the one element of the Maverick design that doesn’t cater to lefties out of the box.

As mentioned above, these FatCarbon models are a limited release. They dropped today and will probably go pretty fast – if you’re after one, godspeed!
